Soma swings by

Show – 1995
D kicks off the show in hectic fashion with Soulfingas on the other side of the glass. Artist Soma (“Causin’ Mass Hysteria”) pays a visit to PRB and hips us to all of his projects. Seyfu arrives to give a RIP to his grandmother and takes set#2.

Apologizes for fuzziness…we recorded all shows off the air instead of a clean board output (don’t even ask). Being too close to the local transmitter (the big one was down) and in a basement isn’t always a recipe for butter sounds.

Part 1 – D goes dolo…

Part 2 – …and that ni–a Seyfuuuuuu!

Brought to you by Global…

Show – sometime in 1993 (so says the West Coast Jawn…much thanks for the critical ears!)

Hmmm… there’s a line between sponsorship and being “bought”. Not sure what side of the line we were on on this particular week. I hope Global (‘sup Darren!) was happy with the show because they apparently paid for it. Hey at a college station, you’ll take all the revenue you can get, nahmeen? This might also be one of the longest shout-out lists ever…it just keeps going. In the spot: J, D.Groovy, Seyfu, Corey Blunt. This was also on an old Maxell UR 120 minute tapes. The actual tape is really really thin and you could get them for about $1. I’m shocked it still plays.

Corey Blunt comes thru with the uptown flavors…

Shouts to Sunburn

This is just a break at the end of a show. We must have had to break down turntables or something at the end because the music was strictly non-mixed radio fades so I didn’t include it. Seemed too copyright infringe-y not to mention boring.

But what IS included is an example of what happens when you don’t answer the phones and/or write down the shout outs yourself but you try to read them anyway…disaster. So enjoy as Seyfu tries to recover from mistakenly calling a listener named Sun Born…Sun BURN. Belly laughs, jokes, (and poetry) follow as the show descends into pure chaos. Classic V&V.

Ryan’s Lost Tapes

Show – Summer 1996
Ryan sent this one in via the blog piece. Since I usually name the shows by the content in the breaks, this is a tough one. Regardless…here’s your commercial (and break) free 1996-type flavas. I’m guessing this is a DJ Yaseen set. I’ma need some help on this one…Ryan?

Return of the Groovy Man

Show – November 9, 1995
Hagos and D hold it down for the evening…despite the cold medicine and sniffles. D.Groovy gets to spin a couple of sets…not sure if that was good thing. Enjoy 😉

What Happens in Miami…

Show – Fall 1995
Corey Blunt reports about ODB making his presence felt at the “How Can I Be Down?” conference in Miami. D and Hagos do the hosting. The “BK crew” swing by and let off some teenage energy to close the show…yes.

C(lassic) Blunt

Show – June 22, 1995
Just simply a great set by Corey Blunt, unfortunately we join it somewhere in the middle. Spinning isn’t always about tricks and effects and whatnot. A good set is a good set: selection, blends, and continuity…especially given the spinning-unfriendly ‘PRB studio. I present to you Exhibit A.

The Wayback Machine

Show – late 1992ish
J, Seyfu and ESV host (with Karlyn guest-lurking in the back somewhere). This is an old school set for the books. You won’t hear them like this anymore.

Part 1 – J kills ’em with his crates.

Too many hosts not enough mics

Show – Winter 1993
There’s about 10-15 mins of news, commercials, and shoutouts in the beginning but just the mere fact that we rocked the ABC news feed with Zulu War Chant underneath is pure Vibes on a Thursday night. When you don’t get paid you just might do anything.

J’s Sandbox Crew from the Bx is in the house, Care Bear, Ace, the B.U.M.S., Corey Blunt, Sey-boogie, J, and D Groovy all crowded into that tiny funky basement studio…even KJ does some shoutouts.

Part 1 – R.I.F.

Part 2 – How many brothers does it take to give away tickets?

Ruff Enuff? (maybe not)

Lots of heads in the basement this evening. We also tried to premiere a new track that ended up on Terminator X album called Ruff Enuff (by the Punk Barbarians) however the tape deck in the station was SO bad over the air that I edited it out of this posting. It was just unlistenable so if you go “huh…what?” that’s why. If I can find a better copy of Ruff Enuff I’ll splice it in later. I can’t place the date on this one…I need an assist from Seyfu. Enjoy.
